AbstractA pot experiment was conducted in 2017 at green house ,department of Botany PMAS. Thesoil Ph was 7 and electrical conductivity 8 and saturation percentage was 9. Treatment comprises ofsix levels of fertilizer. T0 with no treatment , T1 (O.178g of gypsum + 2g/l FeSo4) , T2 (0.356g ofgypsum + 2g/l FeSo4 ) , T3 (0.178g of single super phosphate + 2g/l FeSo4 ) , T4 ( 0.356g of singlesuper phosphate + 2g/l FeSo4 ) , T5 (0.178g of gypsum + 0.178g single super phosphate + 2g/l FeSo4)and T6 (0.356g of gypsum + 0.356g of single super phosphate + 2g/l FeSo4) . There were 6treatments each replicated twice .The experiment was laid out in Randomized Square Design. Theresult showed that maximum shoot length , root length, dry and fresh weight of shoot and root, leafarea, number of leaves, chlorophyll content and germination percentage were recorded undertreatment T6 (0.356g of gypsum + 0.356g of single super phosphate + 2g/l FeSo4).IntroductionTriticum aestivum L is the important cereal crop in Pakistan and other countries. It is efficientsource of carbohydrates. Wheat is the important crop and it ranks third in the world (UNDPand FAO, 2008). It constitutes 60% of the daily diet of common man in Pakistan.A balanced fertilization of macro and micro nutrients is very important for high yield andhigh quality products(Sawan et al.,2001). Iron is important micronutrient for plant growthand development and it is involved in chlorophyll, thylakoid synthesis and chloroplastdevelopment. Iron sulphate is the main source of phosphorus applied to wheat in the form offoliar spray. Foliar feeding is a new and controversal technique of feeding plants by applyingliquid fertilizer directly to their leaves(Bernal et al., 2007) and (Baloch et al., 2008). Gypsumimprove the properties of the soil and has significant effect on productivity of crop and leafarea (Greenleaf Advisors, LLC 2015). Single super phosphate is a form of phosphatefertilizer. It has most significant effect on plant’s root system and promote the growth anddevelopment (XI Jin-gen1, pWU Hao1(2009). So, the experiment was carried out toinvestigate the effect of fertilizers (gypsum, iron sulphate and single super phosphate) onwheat growth and yield.Materials and methodsA pot experiment was conducted in 2017 at green house , department of Botany PMASRawalpindi , which is located in the north of Panjab. The soil of pots was with ph 7.50 ,electrical conductivity 0.65dSm -1 , organic matter 0.56 %, available phosphorus 4.6mg kg -1 ,potassium 120mg kg -1 .Total 26 plastic pots were arranged and 10 seeds were sown per pot.The pot length was 22cm and width 18.5cm. Treatment comprises of six levels of fertilizers.T0 with no treatment, T1(0.178g of gypsum and 2g/l FeSo4 as foliar spray), T2 (0.356g ofgypsum and 2g/l FeSo4 as foliar spray), T3 (0.178g of single super phosphate and 2g/l FeSo4as foliar spray), T4 (0.356 of single super phosphate and 2g/l FeSo4 as foliar spray),T5(0.178g of gypsum , 0.178g of single super phosphate and 2g/l FeSo4 as foliar spray) andT6(0.356g of gypsum, 0.356 of single super phosphate and 2g/l FeSo4 as foliar spray) . There2were 6 treatments of two varieties and each replicated twice. The experiment was carried outin a randomized square design. But significantly increased in treatment T5 (0.178g of gypsum + 0.178g singlesuper phosphate + 2g/l iron sulphate as foliar spray ) and T6 ( 0.356g of gypsum + 0.356g of7single super phosphate + 2g/l iron sulphate as foliar spray). Significant increased in growthparameters are due to spontaneous cell division, enlargement and elongation as a result ofwhole plant grow efficiently.Effect of single super phosphateThe applications of single super phosphate significantly increase the growth attributes ofwheat viz. shoot length, root length, dry and fresh weight of root and shoot, number of leaves, leaf area , germination percentage and chlorophyll content. All these attributes increasedwith increase in application of single super phosphate along with gypsum at same time. Theresult indicated significant increase in treatment T5 (0.178g gypsum + 0.178g single superphosphate + 2g/liron sulphate as foliar spray ) and T6 ( 0.356g gypsum + 0.356g single superphosphate + 2g/l iron sulphate as foliar spray ). Maximum growth of wheat is due to pivotalrole of single super phosphate in modulating the photosynthesis and respiration.Effect of foliar sprayThe applications of iron sulphate plays an important role in synthesis of chlorophyll and plantgrowth regulators. Iron also improves photosynthesis.
