American Idol has given the world various talented singers. Some include pop artist, Kelly Clarkson and country artist, Carrie Underwood.
The music world would not be the same without these two gifted singers. Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, two very unique musical artists impress the music world with their rise to fame, dedication to the entertainment industry, and accomplishments. Even though two singers lives can be very similar, Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood childhoods are very different. Kelly Clarkson was born in Fort Worth, Texas on April 24, 1982 (“Biography 2” 1). She is the daughter of Jeanne and Steve Clarkson (“Kelly” 1). Unfortunately her parents ended up getting a divorce when Kelly was really little (Margaret 2).
Kelly started singing at a young age. (‘Biography 2″ 1) During high school she was involved in her school choir (‘Biography 2″ 1). Unlike Clarkson, Carrie Underwood grew up in Oklahoma (“Biography 1” 1). She was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma on March 10, 1983.
She has two older sisters, but she grew up as though she was an only child (Henderson, 2). Carrie’s father Stephen works as a paper mill employee and her mother, Carole is a teacher (“Carrie’ 1). Underwood always wanted a family just like her parents had, with their 49 year marriage and three children (Tauber 2). Similarly Underwood started to sing at a young age, but it was with her church choir (“Biography 1″2). As a result of them both being in a choir it made them realize that they loved singing and later pursued a singing career. Although Kelly and Carrie have a wonderful life now, they had to start somewhere such as high school and college. Kelly went to Burleson High School in Texas, where she graduated in the year 2000 (“Biography 2” 1).
After high school she decided not to go to college but instead move to Los Angeles to follow her music career (“Biography 2” 1). Clarkson ended up landing a job working with songwriter Gerry Goffin. Unfortunately she got overwhelmed therefore she moved back to Texas (“Biography 2” 1). Unlike Kelly, Carrie pushed aside her vision of being a singer and attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma (“Biography 1” 2). At NSU she majoried in broadcast journalism, but her senior year dropped out to pursue her singing dreams (“Biography 1” 2). Even though Carrie went to college and Kelly did not, they are both singers now and that’s all that matters. After moving back to Texas, Kelly’s friends told her about a new show called American Idol (“Biography 2” 1).
From there Clarkson became one of over 10,000 contestants on the first season (Tyrangiel 3). After many exhausting rounds the judges finally narrowed it down to Kelly and Justin Guarini, but there could be only one winner and it was Kelly (“Biography 2” 1). Aside from winning American Idol Clarkson won multiple Grammy’s in 2004, 2006, and 2013. Likewise, Carrie also starred on American Idol but during season four in 2004 (“Biography 1” 2). After Carrie pushed aside her singer dreams for so long she finally got a break and was one of the last 12 contestants on the show (“Biography 1” 2). The “nobody’ from Oklahoma impressed the judges with her singing ability therefore, they chose her as the official winner of season four (“Biography 1” 2). Carrie also won multiple Grammy’s for female vocalists in years such as 2012, 2013,and 2015 (“Carrie” 1). In December 2012, Clarkson boasted on Twitter that she was getting married to Brandon Blackstock (“Biography 2” 3).
The couple tied the knot on October 20, 2013 at Blackberry Farms in Tennessee (“Biography 2” 3). Clarkson’s husband has two children from a previous marriage, and Clarkson says “Seth and Savannah made me want to have a baby” (Margaret, 3). About one month after the couple got married, they were excited to announce via Twitter that Kelly is pregnant with their first child (“Biography 2” 3). They welcomed their daughter River Rose Blackstock on June 12, 2014, and Remington Alexander Blackstock was born on April 12, 2016 (“Biography 2” 3). Carrie is also married, her and Mike Fisher wed on July 10, 2010 (“Biography 1” 3). In September 2014, the couple was excited to announce that they were expecting their first child in February 27, 2015 (“Biography 1” 3).Both Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood started their success story on American Idol, which led them in opposite directions. They persevered through the hardships of living in the spotlight and to this day they’re known as thriving musical artists.
Even though they have different musical styles, they both share the same dedication for their love of music.Works CitedBiography.com Editors “Carrie Underwood” Biography.com Editors “Kelly Clarkson” Margaret, Mary. “Kelly Clarkson from MISS INDEPENDENT to MOM!
