The goal of the smart city is to change and introduce the sustainability in Buildings and the benefits that it has from the outcomes.
This will be done by specifically categorizing certain aspects of the smart city to help focus on specific areas to be discussed thoroughly. A smart city includes green-design buildings, autonomous cars, sensors, and satellite Wi-Fi. Through showing the potential benefits of the smart city, this paper will highlight the valuable aspects of technology and how it has a huge role towards a smart city. The concept of a smart city is a great example of utilitarianism as it focuses to bring the most happiness and benefits everyone.Implementing Green Design into buildings will help reduce or eliminate the negative illnesses from buildings. Many concepts can help create a more enjoyable experience such as allowing more natural light to pour into buildings. With more natural light will lead to thermal satisfaction, buildings will absorb the heat from the sun and create thermal comfort for those inside the building. Buildings who have more of a natural feeling such as allowing more sunlight, allowing plants inside buildings, and having green technology will show positive effects among people.
There will be an increasing sense of well-being, belonging, and work spirit. Increasing job satisfaction, and having the feeling of looking forward to work with a great workers ethic. Higher satisfaction overall with the building, especially the daylight, windows, electric-lighting, air quality, and connection to nature. While buildings are being constructed the materials used have an impact on the environment. The materials are manufactured in a non-sustainable procedure, factories who make these produce harmful CO2 emissions. Along with this issue is transportation needed for these materials, coming from the manufacturer to the job site this is affecting air quality. Most of the materials aren’t produced locally, some of these may be transported across the country or even across seas.
The biggest environmental issue of using virgin materials is the extraction and consumption of earth causing destruction and disrupts the ecosystems of animals.As green design buildings prove its sustainability in the social health the main reason and goal are to protect the environment and minimize any harm that coming from human development. While any buildings that are being constructed now and in the future, are aimed to build more efficient buildings and that’s thanks to LEED. LEED’s is helping lead the way towards a greener future in the economic aspect it’s also aimed to minimize harm towards the environment. LEED is guiding the construction industry towards making a smaller footprint meaning in terms of buildings such as the effect on air quality, water consumption, energy use, waste and toxic reduction. It is important when in the design-build phase of construction for the architects and engineers to create a solution to reduce the probability of moisture accumulation and mold within buildings.
As well as reflect and understand what are the influencing factors on air quality control to create the most efficient and pure air from indoor building ventilation. There are four principles for good indoor air quality design. First being source control, what this does is keeps the source of pollutants out of buildings or reduce the sources when they can’t be prevented.
Ventilation control, provide substantial ventilation to remove as much pollutants from the building. Building commissioning, define performance specifications in advance and test the building at various stages of construction and operation to ensure that it performs as designed. Maintenance ensures that the building is kept clean and maintained during its operational life.
