Morally drug addiction and drug abuse are a serious problem which deteriorates the family relation and in fact combating drug addiction is a nation’s health problem wherein even budget allocation is made for treatment of such individuals in an ethical manner in the interest of protection of life saving moralities. It is important here to take note which ethical theory is represented here in order to analyze and evaluate the problem.Alcohol and drug abuse is a societal problem and can also be considered as an epidemic that lowers the moralities in society amidst of parents, children and others. A pain-in-neck and a constant dripping are such a nagging situations that it is only with time along with tremendous patience, these mental health problems can be dealt with wherever and with whomever it is encountered with. Ethically speaking no theory encourages to be away from being a good Samaritan and neither a good shepherd who seek and find the lost ones.In biblical perspective a prodigal son is not forgotten by parents until son realizes about the facts of being an obedient son, with examples such as these which reveal human virtues how important it is to lead a normal and a disciplined life whether it is applicable for parents or for children.
Some of negative effects of alcohol and drug abuse in this case are: 1. Anxiety that leads to raise blood pressure levels and which lead to depression. 2. Morally it is a social evil which should be eradicated with the help of societal transformation and changing the mindset of people.3.
Ethically it is important to change the lives of such people who are enslaved by addictions which spoils the lives of people and even causes untimely deaths and further brings poverty to the dependents i. e. children. In the case of Mary, being an intelligent and courageous girl, Mary can always seek the support of parents, motivate, consider the guidance of a church pastor to attend A&A programs in order to get rid of this socially deadliest evil.
Mary cannot make a major issue as it further leaves a negative impact on parents, which is why, every day visit of a pastor, psychotherapist or regular programs of A&A would slowly change the mindset of Mary’s parents. If this decision is not considered by Mary, both the parents are seriously in danger that may cause cardiac arrest in which Mary would become an orphan. 2. Think through the Options (5 points possible) First major option would be to enroll Mary’s parents for A&A program which is an excellent rehabilitation centre which cures many people from drug addiction and alcohol addiction. As a matter of fact, A&A is the only organization which delivers prompt and perfect services to addicts who get back to homes to lead a normal life. There are many success stories in the tenure of A&A and it is a great place for meditation for those who are mentally and health wise leading a sick life.
The second option would be to arrange for a physician, a psychotherapist and a nurse to regularly visit Mary’ s parents and prescribe medicines and nurse to monitor that medicines are overdosed.Arrange for a physiotherapist for regular exercises which strengthen the muscles and makes a person much active than before and never allows a feeling of sickness or depression. The third option would be to regularly conduct pastoral meetings at home, scripture reading, message and prayer to provide godly strength to get encouraged to get rid off from addiction. 3.
Highlight the Stakeholders Mary’s brother is leading an own status of life with wife and children and is leading financially self-reliant life. There are no guarantees that Mary’s brother would take the responsibility of parents in all probabilities to help regain the health and to lead a normal life. Mary is the only person who is at risk with the fact that, still being a collegian and living with parents, Mary has been observant of all the facts about parents who have exceeded the dosage of medicines and might even fall short of finances in future with the present continuance of state of affairs. Therefore a strong and effective step must be taken by Mary in order to guard the health of parents, maintain financial resources and seek legal advice and pastoral guidance to prevent this bug of addiction to be driven away from home. Narcotics Anonymous is associated with Church of Scientology which recovers from abuse of alcohol and drug addiction . This organization conducts meetings to its members in church meeting rooms, libraries, hospitals, community centers, parks or in any other place wherein a meeting can be arranged.Members who participate in the meeting on a regular basis recover from these over riding habits and regain health and sound rational thinking.
4. Kantianism states that one must never treat other persons as a means to meet one’s own needs. In other words, one must not force others to do anything and neither manipulates to do so. All acts must be interactive and consensual. It is also important to state here that animals unlike human beings do not possess the capacity to consent and neither moral status which is why human beings must believe and agree to take the consent of other person before involving others without prior permission. The Golden Rule : Do as you would be done by Kant theory has two aspects to reality.
The first is reality which is seen through conceptual structure and the other is when it is not seen. Similarly human beings are of two kinds. The first kind, as one appears to others and second kind, who appear when nobody is looking in character as well in nature. 5. Best option and summary of theories The first option is the best which states about attending to A&A seeking cure from alcohol and drug addiction with the following reasons.
(a) There is a sure success rate that is given to the A&A organization whose motive is to treat and care for such addicted individuals. (b) A&A is a professional organization in treating addicted patients. ( c ) A&A restores the lives of people by transforming minds by the application of ethic models. 6. Logical fallacies. 1. “good parents got addicted to bad habits” – common belief. 2.
“parents were abusing the drugs as dosage was excessive” – Ad ignorantium3. “this may affect relationship with parents, due to strong addiction” – slippery slope 4. “Active in the community and church. Do not damage reputation” – Non sequitur 5. “effects on older brother, wife and two children” – Inconsistency References Alcoholics Anonymous Reviewed April 4, 2008 http://www. alcoholics-anonymous. org/ Kant’s theory of ethics Reviewed April 4, 2008 http://www.
