The “CompTIA Cyberstates 2017” paper is mostly about companies that have jobs that use technologyas a critical requirement. It talksabout the types of tech workers and knowledge workers and self-employed techoccupation workers. It talks about the self-employedtech sector workers and also non-tech firms with a presence in technology. The paper talks about the wages of techworker between U.S. states.
The papertalks about how technology replaces older, dangerous, dull, tedious jobs withnew easier jobs with the hope that it creates more jobs than it destroys. The paper had a lot of reports that gaveinformation about each of the fifty states and also the larger cities. Texas is 2nd in tech employmentrank and 13th in average tech wage rank and 16th ininnovation rank. (Cyberstates2017) In Houston, 42% of the tech industry jobs are in tech occupations. The leading tech occupations in Houston arecomputer systems analysts, computer user support specialists and softwaredevelopers, applications. (Cyberstates 2017) Basically, it seemed like this paper was about jobwages in the Tech Industry among workers. Thepaper “Special Report: IT jobs in 2020-A leader’s guide” is more about thefuture of jobs in technology. The lowerend jobs seem to be possibly replaced by automation in the near future.
This willcause more of a pay inequality in the work force. Older jobs and some lower paying jobs will bereplaced by higher paying jobs and some newer jobs. Most of these new jobs will require a degreeof some sort. Some of the jobs will needa “hard to come by” specialization. This paper basically says that automationwill replace the lower payed jobs and also create new IT jobs. The paper also talks about some IT jobs thatwill most likely change into a different style of work in the very closefuture. Instead of doing the samecomfortable work they have always done, some of jobs”that AI and automation will make radically more efficient”. Thepaper talked about some kinds of tech these jobs were security professionals, businessintelligence, help desk, software engineers/web developers, and CIO’s. (Special Report: IT Jobs in 2020) Itseems that these kinds of jobs will become more efficient in what they do orhow they are done when AI and automation start getting put into them.Anotherpart of “SpecialReport: IT jobs in 2020-A leader’s guide” talkedabout some IT jobs that will be in high demand in the not so far future.
Some of these jobs were network analyst,security analyst, cloud engineer, database administrator, and a user supportspecialist. (Special Report: IT Jobsin 2020) These were only some of the jobs listed in the paper,but these are some of the jobs that many companies are and will be looking forto fill. The paper then talked aboutsome possibly useful tips for “finding tech talent in difficult to fillspecialties”.
(Special Report: IT Jobsin 2020) Some of these tips would include working your staff’snetworks, appeal to what candidates are looking for, hiring the contractors whoare experts in the areas you need, getting workers to have “cross-train” talent,team with local universities and schools and don’t forget the business savvypeople. (Special Report: IT Jobsin 2020) The paper then talks about how IT people of today willneed to be able to have a variety of skill sets to be able to get employed inthe near future. As of right now many ITpeople are not required to have too many skills sets to get a good IT job, butsoon companies will start requiring them to have more than what they know intheir comfort zone. The paper also talksabout how higher ups can adapt to the changes and essentially it says to nurtureyour existing workers and try out some experimentation.The IT industry is inconstantly growing and will always be in need of more IT workers now and in thefuture. AI and automation will replaceolder jobs and create some newer jobs. It will also modify existing ones to make it easier or more complex, orremove certain jobs altogether. As thesejobs get modified or new ones are created it might start to become harder forcompanies to find workers with specific specializations in whatever work theyneed them for.

Homework Part 2PAPER SUMMARY The first part of the “ITIndustry Outlook 2017” paper was separated into three different trends. Thetrends are the technology trends, the channel trends and the workforcetrends. The technology trends sectiontalked about things like how the tools of the cloud era emerged in threeevolution stages of IT.
These stages arethe mainframe era, the PC/Internet era and the cloud/mobile era. (IT Industry Outlook 2017) The paper mentions that there are manyfactors that define each era. It laterproceeds to talk about Blockchain database structure and how AI will add a newlevel of interaction with the user(s). The technology trends section also talked about how security will getworse before it gets better because many companies don’t improve their securitydespite many incidents, such as breaches, happening to other companies.
Itproceeds to talk about how companies will not really push to improve on theirsecurity until something very major happens across all the companies and for nowthe companies will just be playing “catch up” on recent technology. The next part of technology trends was abouthow data teams will bridge the gap between IT and business. The paper describes four primary areas that”form the overall IT function” such as, “infrastructure, development, securityand data” and how they relate to the “gap between IT and business” people.
(IT Industry Outlook 2017) Thelast part of the technology trends was how the internet of things transformsphysical environments. The paperdescribes how the IoT (Internet of Things) is a “massive disruptor” in thatthings that normally won’t be “smart” are now smart. It talks about howtechnology is spreading to everyday items and is starting to speed up. Regulations and protocols have not caught upyet but will soon. IoT will one daychange how “everyday life” is to us. Thechannel trends section talks about how there are fresh faces in traditionalmarket approaches. The market isshifting from just a services focus to a more specialized focus acrossindustries.
Most companies will bedeveloping their own property instead of having to depend on others as much. The channels are constantly changing. The channel trends section also talked aboutthe retooling of partner programs. Firmsare becoming pickier when choosing a partner. It has gone from being needed to not so much.
Vendor provided items used to provide much of the income but that has shiftedto making their “own sales and marketing activities”. The next channels section talked about howthe community is aging and the need to find new people. It is estimated that about “40% of thechannel universe is expected to retire in the next 10 years”. (IT Industry Outlook 2017) Theindustry needs to find new ways to get young people in fill the soon to be gap.
Basically, the older workers are soon toretire, and the next generation needs to come and fill the void. The last channel section talked about theopportunities in the cloud management area where service providers can helpsolve problems for clients. Theworkforce trends section talked about things like how workers push theboundaries. The workplace is constantlychanging and such factors include, “basic demographic shifts, the growth oftelecommuting and remote work arrangements, and more team-orientedorganizational hierarchies”.
(IT Industry Outlook 2017) Newcommunications tools and ways that people come together have also changed howpeople formulate the workplace. The newworkers are wanting to move beyond the old corporation systems such as “legacysystems”. The next workforce sectiontalked about the blended workforce and how the workforce of today is more mixedin with all types of races and ethnicities and new ways of flexibilities areneeded with this.
The next workforcesection talked about the technologies impact on employment and describes howtechnology replaces an older job with automation and how such a worker willadapt to the change. The last workforcesection talked about how the skill gap is on the rise amongst workers. Employee’s feels their talent is not beingfully used and also that employees need to find new ways to explore ideas andnew ways to learn things might be needed. Aftertalking about the major trends, the “IT Industry Outlook 2017” paper then talked about the economic outlookand the workforce outlook. The economicoutlook shows a promising 2017 confidence outlook. “IT industry growth is projected to outperformoverall economic growth”. (IT Industry Outlook 2017) Security has gone from a defined set toa broad range of tools and safety measures to counter the ever-growing field ofsecurity. Cloud computing is starting to be able to compete with other servicesor categories.
The IT area seems to havea positive future ahead of it. Theworkforce outlook has two components. There is the tech industry employment (the IT workers) and the techoccupation employment (the non IT workers).
It is getting hard to find workers in emerging tech fields. Employers are competing with other firms. It is hard to find workers with a sufficientamount soft skills. (IT Industry Outlook 2017) There is a lack of talent in the area. There are new emerging job titles. The IT occupation job postings are decreasingfor the time being. Employers arechallenged to find workers in the IT occupations.
