The overwhelming bullying and peer pressure in today’s society has put a heavy toll on our children’s mental and physical well being. It not only affects children bur people of different ages, and it is of importance to them because the choices made when dealing with both issues influences their success or failure of the future. Bullying can be defined as a direct threat of physical or emotional harm for not doing something and it is repeated over time by the same person.
On the other hand peer pressure is when one feels the need to change how they act to be accepted by another individual or group. But both issues tend to make people distress and can make them feel unsafe and think there must be something wrong with them. People also lose confidence and self esteem. Bullying can have long term physical and psychological consequences which include withdrawal from family and school activities, wanting to be left alone and more serious concerns such as suicide and a decrease in mental health. However with peer pressure, it has both good and bad consequences, with bad being of a higher percentage. Teenagers and young adults are the ones who face peer pressure the most in today’s society.
They are influenced to do illegal things such drinking smoking, crime, even bullying and engaging themselves in unprotected sexual activity which leads to the spread of sexual itty transmitted diseases. Benefits vary in bullying and peer pressure. Bullying and peer pressure is not always a bad thing. We all are influenced by our peers both negatively and positively. It helps define who we are and how we feel about situations in our lives. It is how we chose to react to bullying and peer pressure that defines who we are as an individual.
Bullying has many benefits in which the bully stands up for what and who they are. Dry. Guys and girls who are bullied may find their schoolwork and health suffering. Also students who are under the influence of peer pressure are pressured into becoming popular, they feel the need to do things they do not want to do so they can fit in groups, e. G. Smoke cigarettes also pressure and expectations from the child’s parents can also be bad. They compare their children with their relatives and friend’s kids so their children are driven to do better but it can either make or break them. Prevention strategies are similar with bullying and peer pressure. The stress of other children who are facing bullying and peer pressure has become a big problem in today’s society.
We deed to address this problem socially, politically and at home by getting more involved with our children and their activities. Bullying and peer pressure can be prevented by a number of strategies such as disciplinary actions, educational practices and therapy. Disciplinary actions indicate that bullying and peer pressure is not acceptable and it specifies the consequences. These actions take the form of suspensions and positive acts. On the other hand educational practices involve training and campaigns, this helps people become aware of bullying and peer pressure for prevention.
Lastly therapy includes counseling and mediation. When bullying and peer pressure starts to affect a child’s work, life, health and happiness, it may be time to consider getting help from a counselor and engage in peer mediation. Bullying and peer pressure are comparable in terms of its consequences, benefits, drawbacks and prevention strategies. Close attention must be paid in order to prevent bullying and peer pressure from occurring to create happy, healthy and successful young people.
