Checking Perceptions Perception is defined as selecting, organizing, and interpreting information to give personal meaning. It is how you view others and your surroundings. People can perceive the same situation or person in different forms. Perception affects the way a person communicates with another. The way a person views something or someone depends on a lot of factors. Some of those factors are personal, cultural background, ethnocentrism, even gender. About 2 months ago, my family and I met the girl that my older brother wanted to array.
Before that, they had been dating for only 4 months, so the idea to me was a little crazy. I was anxious to see the woman that my brother wanted to marry. I thought it was too soon. On the other hand, my mother thought it was completely normal because her and my father knew each other 7 months before they got married. I thought about it and came to the conclusion that she could possibly be pregnant. I searched for her on Backbone. I saw a couple of statuses that kept on adding to my suspicion of her being pregnant.
So when we finally met her, I let her et to know my family and got to know her as well. I finally asked her if we could talk in private. I asked her if she was pregnant and she admitted it. My perception of this lady were accurate. I didn’t want to be wrong, so I had to ask her. My mother and I had a very different perception of the same person because of personal experience on her behalf. My perception was also influenced by her Backbone.
