Physical fitness is a very important part in our lives. It enables us to perform up to our potential. Fitness can be described as a condition that helps us look, feel and do our best. More specifically, it is the “ability of the human body to function with vigor and alertness, without undue fatigue, and with ample energy to engage in leisure activities. Physical fitness involves the performance of the heart and lungs, and the muscles of the body. And, since what we do with our bodies also affects what we can do with our minds, fitness influences to some degree qualities such as mental alertness and emotional stability.
Physical fitness is most easily understood by examining the four basic parts: Cardiorespiratory Endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance and flexibility. Cardiorespiratory Endurance is the ability to deliver oxygen and nutrients to tissues and to remove wastes over sustained periods of time. Long runs and swims are among the methods employed in measuring this component. Muscular strength is the ability of a muscle to exert force for a brief period of time.
Muscular Endurance refers to the capacity of a muscle to exert a submaximal force through a given range of motion or at a single point over a given time. Flexibility is the ability of a joint to move through a full range of motion. By taking this class it has really taught me a lot about fitness and has helped me change my physical ways. Since I started this class I have tried my hardest to work out at least four times a week. I walk four miles and do 100 abs three times a week for sure. On Saturday and Sunday I try to go to the gym and do weights.
Over the past couple of weeks I can tell that my cardiovascular endurance has gotten a lot better. The first few weeks I would get really tired and out of breath after about 30 minutes but now I can walk an hour and be fine. My muscular strength has gotten better too. I am able to lift heavier weights at the gym. I also have been doing lunges and stretching before I go to sleep, which is helping my flexibility. The only reason I don’t do some sort of physical activity everyday is because on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have class all day long and by time I get home I am to tired.
It was really hard to make time to work out. Now it is just part of my everyday routine. I even got my family to start working out with me and my mom has lost 27 pounds. When I got my body compositions results I was a little upset but the doctor told me I just need to get more muscle and I will be fine. I am okay with my weight as of now. I just want to continue to workout. I have noticed that since I have been working out more I feel a lot better during the day. I used to be tired all day but now I have a lot more energy.
I also have been eating healthier and it makes me feel better about myself too. I think working out and having a good diet is the best way to go. I will never go back to eating bad and not working out. Todays society makes it really hard to stay on a diet though. Everybody is to worried about watching television and the kids are to worried about playing video games. I think that is the main reason obesity is increasing in the United States. If everybody worked out at least an hour a day I think obesity would decline.
Another reason is because fast food is commercialized everywhere. I know that every time I watch television I see probably 10 commercials for fast food and that makes me want to go get it. Also people just don’t have the time anymore. They don’t have the time to cook food that is good for you or they don’t have the time to go work out. I have enjoyed this class a lot and it really has taught me a lot about physical fitness. I am so glad I took this class and I am going to teach what I know to other people so maybe they can feel as good as I do.
