The Struggles of Rosa Lee

There is no doubt about it that Rosa Lee and her family have been though numerous struggles. Looking back to the day she was born up until the day she passed away, stirs up many difficult questions and feelings as to why she lived such a traumatic life.

Some of those questions were answered, but some will remain unanswered forever. Rosa Lee’s family, generations before and after have been exposed to racism, sexism, poverty, sexual abuse, drug abuse, criminal backgrounds and the list goes on. Throughout the years, circumstances slightly changed in the geographic sense, but no matter where Rosa Lee took her family, they could not escape poverty and the downfalls that come along with it. The Stock Market Crash of 1929 threw employment of hard working individuals out the window. Unemployment soared from 1.6 million in 1929 to nearly 13 million in 1933.

Fortunately, in the progressive erasocial welfare policies and programs were designed to meet the needs of individuals and families who were unable to do it themselves. This eventually changed and became a government responsibility.
