The Third Time I Broke My Arm

The Third Time I Broke My Arm Michael Middleton I was wondering what the most memorable moment in my life was. I know what normal thing to say is when I met my wife or when my kids were born all though those are truly memorable moments. I want to say something like when my mother bought me my first Adaptor Christmas but the one that truly sticks out in my mind was the third time that I broke my arm which is a truly amazing story.

It was a Saturday evening in the late ass’s early ass’s and I was dropped off at my grandmother’s house while my mother went to work at the hospital. About a half of a mile away from my cousins house, but to get to my cousins house you had to cross 5 sets of railroad tracks and a train yard. After about an hour hanging around my grandmother’s house I decided I would go see what my cousin was doing. That entire day my cousin, four of my friends, and I had a great day hanging out being mischievous and doing what 15 to 16 year old kids do.

Before I knew it the sun had gone down. All of a sudden we heard an all too familiar thundering sound. It was so loud It made the ground shake; it was the sound of a trains whistle. I don’t know who got the bright idea to see who could make it across the tracks to the other side before the train came. All of a sudden we took off running, the tracks were a quarter of a mile away and consisted of eight tracks side by side and were all running at full speed. I was pretty fast back then and was In the lead.

I cleared the 1st set of tracks and by the time I got to the third set I tripped and fell while lying there I could see the light of the train getting closer and closer. All of a sudden shadows of my friends and cousin flying by one after the other while I was laying there In shock on the cold Iron tracks. As the train got closer I rolled off the tracks and Into some bushes Just as the train thundered by. While lying there In the bushes I heard my cousin calling my name and I responded, “I’m here but I think my arms broke”.

My cousin and friends didn’t believe my arm was broken until I got under a street light and held up my arm. When he actually saw It he screamed, “OH SIT! ” My hand was pushed 5 to 6 Inches past my wrist. I was still In shock so I didn’t feel any pain. We hurried to my grandmother’s house and my uncle was there he said, “Damn nephew I have never seen anything Like that” put me In the car and rushed me to the hospital running every light on the way there.
