The writer’s goal is to change theminds of the readers or at least to get the readers to question their positionon a debate and think about the writer’s point of view. Goodwriting involves anticipation of the audience’s questions, credibility, logicand storytelling.             Good writing anticipates audience’s questions.

Good writing serves the reader, not the writer. It isn’t indulgent. Rather,good writing anticipates what questions readers will have as they read a pieceand it answers them. That means most good writers are natural doubters,especially looking at their own work.

Orwell utilizescommentary and narration to explain his main points. He gives a detailedexamination of himself and past events by reflecting on them and how they haveinfluenced him as an author and person.

For example, “All writers are vain,selfish, and lazy, and at the very bottom of their motives there lies amystery.” Orwell is able to make this essay logical to his readers by usingdiffering figures of speech, such as metaphors, similes, and imagery. Forexample, “Good prose is like a window pane.” The reader is able to connect withhim, regardless if they may not be writers themselves. He explains his ideas ina distinct approach that can be accepted by the community. Each one of pointshe makes link to his main idea of “Why I Write.

”            Theessay is written in first person since the author used “I” throughout theessay. For example, “I knew that when I grew up I should be a writer.” He usesformal language throughout the entire essay. The tone of Why I Write isdepressing. Orwell uses a few of the transitional words such as ‘however’. Hedesires to give the readers distinct facts about him instead of the commonones. The writer aspires to show us the other things he carried out in additionto going to school and work like writing poems, etc.

Altogether, theprogression of the essay is strong and easily comprehensible. The sentencestructure is elementary.             Inconclusion, political purpose, sheer egoism, historical impulse, and aestheticenthusiasm are the reasons why authors compose according to George Orwell.
