Thomas the 20th century. Thomas Edison made most

Thomas EdisonBiographyBy: Kyler VisserFor: Ms. ChangThomas Edison was a businessman, who invented many things. Thomas Edison was alive at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Thomas Edison made most of his finances in electricity. He, like most people, didn’t succeed at everything the first time. Sometimes he didn’t succeed at all. In this biography i want to share with you Thomas Edison’s early life and childhood; his inventions and failures and his death.Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Milan, Ohio. Thomas Edison was the youngest of seven children made up of Samuel and Nancy Edison. Samuel was an exiled political activist from Canada. Nancy was an accomplished school teacher and a major influence in Thomas’ early life.An ear infection left Edison with hearing difficulties in both ears as a child and nearly deaf as an adult. Edison would later recount, with variations on the story, that he lost his hearing due to a train incident in which his ears were injured. However, others have tended to discount this as the sole cause of his hearing loss.In 1854, Edison’s family moved to Port Huron, Michigan, where he attended Cooper Union public school for a total of 12 weeks. At age 11, he showed a voracious appetite for knowledge, reading books on a wide range of subjects. In this wide-open curriculum Edison developed a process for self-education and learning independently that would serve him throughout his life. When Edison was 12, he convinced his parents to let him sell newspapers to passengers along the Grand Trunk Railroad line. Exploiting his access to the news bulletins he teletype to the station office each day, Thomas began publishing his own small newspaper, called the Grand Trunk Herald. The up-to-date articles were a hit with passengers. This was the first of what would become a long string of entrepreneurial ventures where he saw a need and capitalized on the opportunity.Edison also used his access to the railroad to conduct chemical experiments in a small laboratory he set up in a train baggage car. During one of his experiments, a chemical fire started and the car caught fire. The conductor rushed in and struck Thomas on the side of the head, probably furthering some of his hearing loss. He was kicked off the train and forced to sell his newspapers at various stations along the route.Thomas Edison’s school told him he was too ignorant and difficult to learn anything. Thomas Edison was kicked out of Cooper Union school. He was homeschooled. The phonograph was a machine that recorded sound. He accidentally invented it by trying to improve the telegraph by replacing the tape in the machine and changing it to be a disc that recorded sound onto the disc through speech. Without thomas edison we would have no cd players or BLU ray discs.Thomas edison made the movie camera and it soon lead into movies as we know them today. We had started out with a movie theater that was a few hundred feet by a few 100 feet. Then we made it into a huge movie theater. Thomas Edison made the tasimeter which was a invention for that you could see an eclipse with. When you go to see an eclipse it could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. That is why thomas edison made the tasimeter.thomas edison invented the carbon microphone because he wanted to improve voice recording and voice sound. Most people who work in special dj places have a electric sound board but this is just a major improvement.Thomas edison invented the kinetoscope wich soon lead into the movie camera. But before that it was the main cause of the motion picture movies. Most people were unaware that thomas edison was the main inventor of the movies any movie should have been created by thomas edison.Thomas Edison was married twice and had ten kids. He had 8 sons and 2 daughters. He had three brothers and three sisters. He was 16 when he first got married first and he was remarried at the age of 82.Thomas Edison’s mining failure was a costly experience. He tried to take advantage of the need for iron ore and everything went south. First, he tried to extract iron ore from the sand with electromagnets. This did not work because Thomas Edison was not bringing in enough iron in good quality to make it profitable. He was collecting more stone than iron.  Thomas Edison took a step back and tried to make a real change in how he was producing iron ore. Instead of using magnets and sand, he now was trying to separate iron from crushed rocks from mines. He worked on making the mining process better for a while. Then feeling like he knew what he was doing, Edison took matters into his own hands and built his own factory in New Jersey. The new factory in New Jersey was big enough to hold three electromagnets that were massive. These magnets were going to be used to extract iron from rocks/dust and make iron ore out of it. It was estimated that the factory could produce 1,200 tons of iron ore per day. They were never able to reach this amount. This was because of technical difficulties. Thomas Edison tried to upgrade equipment in the factory but it didn’t change how profitable the company was.Soon after Thomas Edison realized that his company was a failure. There were not enough customers coming in to make mining iron ore worth it. He closed the company and sold off the equipment to other mine owners. Then used some of his own technology to help him make cement with the leftover dust and sand.Thomas Edison died in october 18, 1931. He died because of diabetes. He was 84 years old when he died. He died in Llewellyn Park, New Jersey, United States. When asked about his failure for his iron ore mining company he said: “It’s all gone, but we had a hell of a good time spending it!”  We can learn from Thomas Edison that while not everything we do succeeds, you can keep on trying. Just make sure you are having a good time doing it.Quotes´Our greatest weakness lies in giving up.´´The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.´´I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work. ´´There is no substitute for hard work.´´Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.´Websites:123456 7 8 9
